You can hear the sap in the tree boiling as the fire goes all around it. It's really a little scary. Trees like this one and dead trees can be a worry when mopping up along the fire line. If a piece of tree falls or rolls across the line, it can start a fire in the middle of the night. There will be three rangers spotting the fire overnight to make sure nothing like that happens.
